George Brown, a law clerk, lived at No. 1 from 1881 to about 1887. He was born at Monimail, Fife on 22 December 1844, son of John Brown and Isabella Yule. He married Margaret Buttercase there on 15 August 1879, and their first child, Isabella Brown was born at Comely Bank, Edinburgh on 4 June 1880, before the family moved to Malta Terrace.
