George Graham

George Graham was resident at No. 1 between 1887 and 1890.¹ He appears to have moved to 12 St Vincent Street in 1890-91,² where he and his family were recorded in the 1891 census.³ George Graham was born in Leith on 03 April 1849, son of James Graham, Deputy Dock Master at Leith, and Alison Whitsunday.⁴ His occupation in 1891 was recorded as ‘clerk’⁷⁶ and in 1901 as ‘brewer’s manager’.⁵ At the time of his death on 05 May 1917 he was a clerk with John Jeffrey & Co., brewers.⁶

George Graham married Helen Lugton on 03 March 1876. She was born at Haddington, East Lothian on 06 April 1857,⁷ daughter of James Lugton and Catherine McCulloch. She died in Edinburgh in 1925.⁸

George Graham and Helen Lugton had six children living with them in 1891 and, most likely, at No. 1 Malta Terrace before this. They were Catherine Lugton Graham (born 1876 in Edinburgh),⁹ Alison Whitsunday Graham (born 1878 in Edinburgh),¹⁰ James Graham (born 1880 in Edinburgh),¹¹ George Graham (born 1882 in Edinburgh),¹² Helen Lugton (born 1884 at Leven, Fife),¹³ and Joseph Lugton Graham (born 1876 in Edinburgh).¹⁴
