George Trimble and his family lived at No. 7 for about ten years, between 1868 and 1879. He was a civil engineer and later partner in the firm of Trimble and Peddie Ltd. which played a big role in the development of Edinburgh’s suburban railways. George Trimble was born in 1828 at Curthwaite in the parish of Thursby, near Carlisle. He retired before 1900 and moved to Grosmont, Monmouthshire where he died on 17 January 1913.
George Trimble married Frances Storey (1826-1904) in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 16 October 1854. They had seven children, the youngest born before the family moved to No. 7. Six children were living there at the time of the 1871 census: Frances Mary Trimble (1855-1937), George Trimble (1856-1945), William Trimble (1859-1918), Isabella (1860-1899), Annie (1862-) and Susan Rumney Trimble (1866-).
