George Trimble and his family lived at No. 7 for about ten years, between 1868 and 1879.1 He was a civil engineer, born about 1828 at Thursby and baptised at St Mary Carlisle on 19 August 1828.2 His parents’ names were not recorded, and he appears to have been raised in the household of his uncle George Trimble, a farmer and land-owner.3 Isabella Trimble, unmarried sister of the latter was also a member the household.

Upon the latter’s death in 1880 he went into partnership with Thomas Peddie, who was also an assistant to Bouch. Trimble & Peddie were engaged on numerous railway projects, including the Edinburgh suburban line. About 1898 the partnership was dissolved6 and George Trimble retired to Grosmont, Herefordshire where he died on 17 January 1913.7
