John Gillot

John Gillot lived at Malta House from 1823 to about 1827. He was described as an agent in the post office directories, and as a merchant in a report in the Edinburgh Advertiser on 20 February 1827. In 1827 he served on the jury for a murder trial. He died at the age of 66 on 7 June 1834, when he was living at 5 Hermitage Place, Stockbridge.

John Gillot’s eldest daughter, Mary Makin Gillot married Robert Andrew Waugh in September 1827. The couple emigrated to Australia.
