James Munro

James Munro and his family lived at No. 6 between 1841 and 1849. Born in Ayr about 1803, James Munro was employed by Wilson & Co., dressing case, desk and pocket book makers in George Street. He was variously described as a dressing case maker (1841), accountant (1851), and merchant.

James Munro married Flaminia Gordon at Cathcart, Renfrewshire on 24 July 1826. They had several children born in Glasgow and Baldernock, Stirlingshire, before moving to Malta Terrace. Living with them there in 1841 were Anne Rose Munro (born 31 August 1827), Jane Gordon Munro (born 26 February 1829), William George Munro (born 28 January 1831), James Gordon Munro (born born 27 March 1833), Alicia Munro (born 13 October 1835), John Henry Munro (born 12 May 1837 ), Emma Munro (born 7 December 1839). Their son Robert Balfour Munro was born at No. 6 in June 1848.

Around 1849 the family moved to Saxe Coburg Place, and appear to have later emigrated to Australia.

  3. I am related to Flaminia Munro. I can not find her scottish birth records. I have used the Scotlands People website, where I have found her Marriane record Can you please let me know of your source for her birthday and place?
    Thank you.

    1. Hello Daina,
      At last a Scottish connection…lovely.
In answer to your question, my computer was scammed, and some of my records are scattered, which need to be found again, and I am not so technically savvy. So I cannot find the Source at present that you are looking for. I do recall searching through the Old Parish Records, familysearch.org, but think I did not get the birthday from them. If in the future I come across the Source, I will forward to you.

If you would like to connect with me, my email address is on this website.
Would love to hear from you,
      Heather

      1. I have found a great deal of information since contacting you.
Daina. Flaminia was named Elizabeth at her Christening.
I also used census information and Scottish BDM. I use Geni to post the info but have added nor not corrected what is on there yet. Will do soon.

  4. The above comment has been disputed but the birth I am referring to is the only birth in 1806 that is in Aberdeen. Or Aberdeen SCT
    I will check again.

  5. I used the official Scotland historic records website – Scotland’s People. Today I found the census record that shows her birth place as being, St Cuthbert’s Midliothan, as others had already stated. It is the first time I have found her name, Flaminia, on that website. Now to find her birth record!!
