Mrs Bethia McFarquhar

Mrs M’Farquhar was listed at No. 3 from 1835 to 1838,¹ having moved from 18 Fettes Row. Bethia Brown was born at Dunsyre, Lanarkshire on 17 May 1765, and was the daughter of Lawrence Brown of Edmonston and his wife Anna Lawson.² She died at 18 Fettes Row on 16 February 1846.³

She married John McFarquhar, W.S., at Edinburgh on 11 October 1793.⁴ He died on 10 June 1817,⁵ shortly after taking up residence in Albany Street.⁶

Four of their daughters were listed living with their widowed mother at Fettes Row in 1841⁷ and likely also lived with her at No. 3 Malta Terrace. These were Ann MacFarquhar (born 20 March 1795, at Edinburgh),⁸ Elizabeth MacFarquhar (born 29 June 1801),⁹ Janet MacFarquhar (born 31 October 1802)¹⁰ and Frances MacFarquhar (born 11 November 1804).¹¹
