Mrs Thomas Kinloch was resident at No. 7 from about 1897 to 1901. Ellen Kinloch was the widow of Thomas Kinloch (c1834-1884), a commercial businessman in Govan. She was born Ellen Stewart McKechnie, daughter of William McKechnie and Jane Stuart, in Glasgow on 28 August 1830. In 1891 she was described as living on private means, at 21 Gibson Street, Govan. She moved to Edinburgh in the mid-1890s, and about 1901 moved from Malta Terrace to Comely Bank Road.
Three of Thomas Kinloch and Ellen McKechnie’s several children were living with her in 1901, and probably lived with her at No. 7 Malta Terrace. They were: Jeannie Stewart Kinloch (born 20 September 1864), Ellen Stuart Kinloch (born 22 October 1868), and John Kinloch (born 1 March 1874).
