Mrs Thomas Kinloch occupied No. 6 between 1897 and 1900.1 She was Ellen Stuart McKechnie, widow of Thomas Kinloch, and born in Glasgow on 28 August 1830, daughter of William McKechnie, a writer, and his wife Jane Stuart.2
She married Thomas Kinloch at 63 John Street, Glasgow on 11 July 1862.3 Thomas Kinloch’s career began as a clerk for an iron works.4 He then worked as a commercial traveller and was a clerk again by 1881.5 Thomas Kinloch died at Greenock on 24 December 1884.6
Before taking up residence at No. 6, Mrs Ellen McKechnie Kinloch was listed in the Electoral Register for 1895-96 as a lodging-house keeper at 8 Bruntsfield Place.7 In 1901 she was at 37 Comely Bank Road.8 She died the following year, on 06 February 1902.9
