Sarah Waller

Sarah Waller and her family were at No. 1 from between 1870 and 1873.¹ She was the wife of Richard Hardress Waller, a land agent who was resident in Londonderry. Sarah Skipton married Richard H. Waller on 20 October 1853, at Greencastle, Donegal, Ireland.² She was born about 1828 at Londonderry,³ daughter of landowner Pitt Skipton. She died in Londonderry on 05 June 1903.⁴

Their youngest son, Archie Waller, was born at No. 1 Malta Terrace on 24 January 1870.⁵ At a young age, he emigrated to Canada in 1887.⁶ On 22 January 1913, at Cranbrook, British Columbia he married Jessie Elizabeth Childs.⁷ In 1921 they were living at Penticton, Yale, British Columbia, where he was a building contractor.⁸ In 1931 he was described as a bricklayer.⁶ He died on 19 April 1946 at Cranbrook, British Columbia.⁹

In addition to Archie, seven children of Richard Waller and Sarah Skipton were recorded living at No. 1 Malta Terrace in 1871:

• • Mary Waller was born about 1855 in Co. Tyrone, Ireland.¹⁰
  • Richard deWarren Waller was born on 11 November 1857 at Milltown, Tyrone, Ireland.¹¹ He was described as a quarry agent at Ffestiniog, Merioneth, Wales in 1881.¹² The following year he emigrated to Canada and in 1911 was recorded as a real estate agent in the town of Elkhorn, Brandon, Manitoba.¹³ He died there on 04 September 1927.¹⁴ He married Miriam Elizabeth Harland at Winnipeg, Manitoba on 25 October 1916.¹⁵
  • Isabella Blanche Waller was born on 17 August 1860 at Kilderry, Londonderry. In 1939 she was living in Poole, Dorset.¹⁶ She died unmarried in 1943 and was buried at Corfe, Dorset on 20 March 1943.¹⁷
  • Pitt Waller was born on 30 January 1863 at Londonderry, Ireland.¹⁸ He emigrated to the USA and became a naturalised citizen on 04 February 1918.¹⁹ He died later the same year on 30 December 1918, at Kelso, Cowlitz, Washington.²⁰ He was a day labourer and unmarried.
  • Hardress Edward Waller was born on 24 June 1864 at Londonderry, Ireland.²¹ In 1911 he was a land agent and rate collector living in Londonderry.²² He died there on 24 September 1931.²³ In 1903 he married Elise Geraldine Katie Tynte at Ballyshannon, Ireland.²⁴
  • Horace Augustus Waller was born on 14 January 1866 at Kilderry, Londonderry.²⁵ He emigrated to Australia in 1886²⁶ and died at Chelsea, Victoria, Australia on 03 April 1951.²⁷ He married Mary A. Knopp at Sydney, New South Wales in 1892.²⁸
  • Georgina Emily Waller was born at Kilderry, Londonderry on 15 March 1868.²⁹ She married Thomas Carey Knox in early 1891³⁰ and was recorded living with him at Buncranna, Donegal in 1901³¹ and 1911.³² She died at Wimborne, Dorset in 1924 and was buried at Corfe on 12 May 1924.³³

Augusta Anne Waller, Sarah Skipton or Waller’s sister-in-law, was also recorded in the household at No. 1 in 1871. She was born in Dublin in 1827³⁴ and died, unmarried, at Kilderry, Londonderry on 03 November 1897.³⁵
