Antonio Gargaro, ice cream dealer, is recorded in the 1905 Valuation Roll as a tenant and occupier at No. 1 Malta Terrace.1 He was born in Italy about 1869. He was recorded in the 1901 Census at 6 West Richmond Street, occupation ice cream maker.2 In 1903, he was listed as a confectioner at 2 Bristo Street,3 and in 1906 was at 53 Lothian Street.4 At the time of the 1911 Census he was living at 2 Greyfriars Place and was a confectioner and employer.5 In 1916, he was listed at 3 Infirmary Street.6 He died in Edinburgh on 18 May 1943.7
Antonio Gargaro married Angelarosa Coppola in Rome on 18 July 1889.4 The couple had seven children, including three born in Italy before the family moved to Edinburgh, between 1897 and 1901. Angelarosa Coppola or Gargaro died in Edinburgh on 22 October 1940, aged 71.8
