Charles E. Pirie was first listed in the Electoral Register at No. 9 in 1945.1 For the next three years he was at No. 4,2 and from 1951 to 1958 was again listed at No. 9, together with his wife Elizabeth. They then moved to 21 Pirniefield Gardens.3 Charles’ sister, Florence May Pirie, was married to John G. G. Baillie, proprietor of No. 9.
Charles Edward Pirie was born in Edinburgh on 08 August 1909, son of William Pirie and his wife Finas Sophia Waters. His father, a Company Sergeant Major in the Seaforth Highlanders was killed in action in 1915.4 During the 1930s, Charles lived with his widowed mother and siblings at 30 Cumberland Street. Finas Sophia Pirie died there on 21 June 1957.5 Charles E. Pirie served in the Royal Engineers during the second world war.6 He died in Edinburgh in 1985.7
Charles E. Pirie married Elizabeth McClelland at Halifax, Yorkshire in 1941.8 She was listed in the Electoral Register at No. 9 Malta Terrace between 1951 and 1958.
