Daniel Gunn

Daniel Gunn, a cabman, was listed at No. 2 Malta Terrace in the register of electors in 1911-12 and 1912-13. He was born in Edinburgh on 18 July 1873, son of John Gunn, an ironmonger, and Mary Berry.¹ In 1891 he was a 17-year old butcher’s assistant, but in 1900 his occupation was given as cab driver. In 1901 he was living at 10 Forres Street. After leaving Malta Terrace he lived in Canning Street Lane and latterly at 16 Springvalley Gardens, with the occupation (motor) contractor. He died on 18 January 1930.²

Daniel Gunn married Mary Arthur Banks on 13 February 1900.³ She was born in 1876 in Bathgate, West Lothian, daughter of John Banks, a coal miner, and Margaret Arthur.⁴ She died at 79 Comiston Road on 13 November 1942.⁵

Daniel Gunn and Mary A. Banks had one daughter, Mary Arthur Berry Gunn, who was born in 1901⁶ and would have been aged 10 when the family moved to Malta Terrace. She married William Bruce in 1924⁷ and died in 1972.⁸
