Alfred Wright, a physician, lived at Malta House from about 1858 to 1861. Though, he was not recorded there in the 1861 census his wife and family were. He was born at Horton in Nova Scotia on 23 September 1825, son of Joseph Wright and Anne Crosby Wiggins. He married in Edinburgh on 7 September 1848, Catherine Moir daughter of James Moir and Margaret Laing Stonehouse. She was born in Edinburgh on 28 June 1815. Three daughters were at Malta House in 1861: Margaret Ann Wright (born 1851), Elizabeth Catherine Wright (born 1853), and Harriet Wright (born 1857).
