Post Office Directories list a Miss Leslie as householder at No. 8 between 1904 and 1931. The 1911 census lists Miss Margaret Leslie as head of the household, and the 1920 valuation roll lists her as proprietor. Margaret Leslie was born 4 March 1843 at Earlston, Berwickshire, daughter of clothier and tailor, Andrew Leslie and his wife Helen. She was a school teacher and died unmarried in 1929.
Also resident at No. 8 in 1911 were Margaret’s unmarried sisters, Ida G. S. Leslie (born 20 June 1862) and Caroline A Leslie (born 27 October 1866). Both were also described as teachers.
