Isabella Mcfarlan, widow of Walter McFarlan, lived at No. 7 with her family from about 1881 to 1892. The post office directories list her as Mrs McFarlan. She was born Isabella Barnet Aitchison, on 18 March 1849, daughter of James Aitchison and Jane Swan. Isabella Aitchison married Walter McFarlan on 27 September 1870, in Edinburgh, and the couple moved to Yorkshire. In 1871, Walter McFarlan, land agent, and Isabella, were resident at Crigglestone, Yorkshire. All of their four children were born in England: Walter McFarlan (1871), Amy R McFarlan (1872), Marjorie McFarlan (1875) and Donald William McFarlan (1876), the last at Darlington. All four lived at 7 Malta Terrace.
