Robert Duns

Robert Duns, a builder, died at No. 6 on 13 January 1949, aged 51 years.1 He had lived in Raeburn Place, until at least 1945.2 He was born in Edinburgh in 1897, son of James Duns and Isabella Brodie.3 James Duns, who was born in England, was a Clerk of Works in 1901,4 and a mason’s overseer in 1911.5 He later established the building business James Duns & Son, with premises at 23 Hamilton Place. Robert Duns operated the business at the time of his death.6

Robert Duns married Jessie Thomson Grieve at 86 Great King Street, Edinburgh on 07 June 1929.7 She was the daughter of Henry Grieve, dairy keeper, and Mary Laurie, and born about 1900. She took over the business on her husband’s death8 and was listed at No. 6 in the 1955 register of electors . She died in 1983.9
