Frances Ronaldson

Frances Ronaldson and her family lived at No. 3 between 1846 and 1853. She was the widow of John Ronaldson in Loquhariot who died on 27 October 1834. She was born Frances Torrance on 11 October 1789, daughter of James Torrance in Oxgangs and Anne Howie, and died at Haverstock-hill, London on 29 September 1863.

Frances Torrance married John Ronaldson at Crichton on 26 December 1818. He was a farmer and captain in the Edinburgh militia. Five of their eight children were resident at No. 3 at the time of the 1851 census: Jessie Harriet Ronaldson (1821-1898), John David Ronaldson (1822-1875), clerk Edinburgh gas company, Barbara Ronaldson (1829-1897), Thomas Ronaldson (1830-1920) a merchant’s clerk, and Francis Hume Ronaldson (1832-1856), clerk in an insurance office.
