Margaret Burn

Margaret Burn and family lived at No. 2 from about 1870 to 1875. Margaret Balfour Wright was born in Edinburgh on 24 March 1819, daughter of seedsman Alexander Wright and Margaret Balfour. She married Thomas Burn on 2 June 1846, at Liberton. He was a native of Bishop Wearmouth, Durham, where they moved to live. Thomas Burn was a solicitor and notary public. On his death, Margaret Burn returned to Edinburgh, where she lived until her own death on 21 June 1889.

In 1871, Margaret Burn had five of her children living with her at No. 2. The eldest, Frances Home Burn (born 1849) was a described as a governess. Thomas M Burn (born 1855) was apprentice to a wine merchant. Margaret Mcintyre Burn (born 1854) and John H Burn (born 1858) and Mary Burn (born 1862) were all described as scholars.
