John Logan, a commission agent in the grain trade, lived at Malta House from 1849 to 1851, then moved to No. 6 where he stayed until 1856. By 1861 he was living at 9 West Claremont Street, where he died in 1866. He was born in April 1787 at Hutton, Berwickshire and before moving to Edinburgh was a farmer at Butterdean, Oldhamstocks.
He married Isabella Logan (born 1794 at Berwick on Tweed). She and five of their children were at Malta House in 1851: John Logan (aged 35), Richard Logan, a chemist (27), Elizabeth (23), Isabella (21) and Mary (17).
