Sarah Waller

Sarah Waller and her family were at No. 1 from about 1870 to 1873. She was the wife of Richard Hardress Waller (1822-1927), a landed estate agent who was resident in Londonderry at the time. Sarah Skipton married Richard H Waller on 20 October 1853, in Ireland. She was born about 1838 at Londonderry, daughter of landowner Pitt Skipton (1797-1877) and Sarah Todd.

Their son, Archie Waller was born at No. 1 on 24 January 1870. Other children recorded there in the 1871 census were: May Waller (aged 16), Richard deWarren Waller (14), Isabella B Waller (19), Pitt Waller (8), Hardress Waller (6), Horace A Waller (5), and Georgina Waller (3).

  1. Sarah’s age was given as 42 on this census (1871) putting her birth about 1829 making her 24 when she married. This is a more reasonable age for a 1853 marriage than 15 (her age at marriage if an 1838 birth).

Also on the census was Augusta A Waller age 44 listed as Sarah’s sister.

  2. I’m researching young Richard de Warrenne Waller and would be grateful for any help anyone can give me. I know very little about him at the moment. Thanks Jenny
