Robert G Baird and his brother Hugh J Baird were listed at No. 8 in the post office directory of 1845/46. They moved to Malta Terrace from 2 Grove Street, but in 1841 and again in 1851 were living at Jocks Lodge. Robert Baird was an artist and portrait painter, born about 1797 in Edinburgh, son of James Baird (1760- ) and Margaret Gunning. Two nephews, Henry Baird and Hugh Baird, followed him in becoming artists. Robert Baird was unmarried and died at the Royal Edinburgh Asylum on 8 April 1875.
