His business premises were at 1 Deanhaugh Street until 1900, when he relocated to 57 Roseburn Terrace. William Smith was born at Lerwick, about 1848. His wife Laura was born at Monzievard, Perthshire about 1847. Living with them in 1901 were their children: John F, an insurance clerk, aged 26, William O (12), and Catherine J (16), who were all born in Edinburgh.
