Alexander M’Leod, a retired excise supervisor, lived at No. 8 between 1846 and 1853. He was born at Assynt c.1786. His wife, Catherine Rose, recorded at No. 8 in 1851, was born at Halkirk in 1793. Their eldest daughter, Mary (born 4 January 1824) was married at No. 8 Malta Terrace to David Cannon M’Connel, of Manchester, on 25 April 1848. Another daughter, Catherine, born in Edinburgh on 1 January 1832, was living at No. 8 in 1851, aged 18.
