Robert Thorburn was listed at No. 8 from 1884 to 1887, succeeding his widowed mother. He was born in Edinburgh in 1863, only son of Archibald Thorburn (1838-1873) and Sarah Jane Anderson (1837-1881). In the census of 1881, aged 18, he was described as having no occupation.
