No 8

No. 8 was described as a self-contained house in 1833, comprising dining room, drawing room and four other rooms on the two upper floors, with a kitchen and three rooms, plus closets and cellars on the ground floor.

The first resident of No. 8 Malta Terrace appears to have been Thomas Gifford of Hillswick who died there at the beginning of 1835. Though the 1822-23 Directory lists a Mrs Milne at 8 Malta Terrace, the house was described as unfinished in an advertisement dated 02 December 1822.1 The house was still unfinished in 18332 and there was no Post Office Directory entry before 1836-37.
