Notes |
- He went to Leeds University and studied chemistry under a Prof. A.G. Perkins. Attended university on a scholarship through British Dyes, later part of ICI. Roy specialised in dyes and was encouraged by his uncle, Billy Lunn, to leave ICI and go into the Lunn family dyeworks. Hilda, his wife, said she thought this to be a mistake and remembers the works being permanently shrouded in smog. Roy contracted lung cancer and died when only 42. Billy Lunn also persuaded Roy to become a Freemason and, partly because of the war and the shortage of men, Roy became the youngest Worshipful Master on record at Greenhead Masonic Lodge in Huddersfield.
