Desmond Agar-Ellis Ker

Desmond A. E. Ker and Priscilla Ker were listed in the 1951 electoral register at No. 4 Malta Terrace.1 They moved to 6 Lonsdale Terrace where they remained until 1957.2 At the time, Desmond Agar-Ellis Ker was a journalist. He was born at Grantham, Lincolnshire on 26 May 1915, son of Reginald Arthur Ker, a schoolmaster, and his wife Morna Agar-Ellis MacCarthy.3 Before the second World War he was a journalist in Worcestershire and during the war was an officer in the Worcestershire Regiment, serving in Iceland and in coastal defence in the south of England. In 1957 he began training for the ministry and was then curate in several English parishes before becoming vicar at Bovey Tracy, Devon in 1970. In 1980 he was appointed priest in charge at St Paul’s, Rothesey, Bute.4 He died on 19 August 2014 at Folkestone, Kent.5

Desmond Agar-Ellis Ker married Priscilla Ann Riley on 03 December 1942, at Newton Abbot, Devon.6 She was born there in 1923,7 daughter of William A. Riley and Mary Vincentia Blanche Edwardrina Kemeys-Tynte. She died at Rothesey, Bute on 11 August 1982.8
